59 CTOs. Are the rules so hard to understand?
26 Jul 2020, 08:46:54
Tony, are two stars not a bit hard?
26 Jul 2020, 10:15:08
I agree with Wolfgang.
CTOs - are stamps too. The rules of the club are fulfilled, even if you don't like CTOs, IMHO.
26 Jul 2020, 13:13:30
first of all the question: Are these all the stamps?
Think the rule should be when you give a negative rating, you must show ALL the stamps.

If the rest of the stamps are normal stamps, mostly commemorative, I probably would not have given a negative rating.
But I can feel with Tony, when a sender says on her profile "PLEASE no CTO" and this is what she is giving away that is asking for bad ratings

I try to crop the stamps into one picture but there were too many, the rest of the stamps were
mostly mint with some SS and a block of four also CTO.
CTOs are not mint stamps and cannot be considered used since they never perform the duty they were design for. The very first rule says, 100 used stamps.
26 Jul 2020, 14:46:00
I would be very happy to receive those nice stamps of Russia. I do not like the old CTO of the Soviet Union that were plentyful. Modern CTO of Russia are not very commun. I would give a 5 for those stamps.
26 Jul 2020, 15:46:07
How to make a stamps from a CTO to a used one? Simple: put CTO stamps in hot water and dry them.

BTW: for such stamps sent by juliafornelli I would give a rating of 5 without hesitation. Really great stamps, mainly from Russia.

If I am a "freak" for not liking CTO stamps, I am in good company, 99% of stamp collectors do not like them either. I do not like bribes and even less people who pusses them.
26 Jul 2020, 17:00:52
Milan, in Russia and in the USSR after World War II, the CTO-poststempels don't have a post office number.

Tony, this project was created by Danubius. He wrote (http://100stamps.club/discussions/messages/3): "First of all, the idea of this project is to send 100 used stamps to a random member. When I was a kid, I could buy from the post office a "philatelic envelope with surprises" containing 50 or 100 stamps. You did not knew what was inside. It was a surprise. I couldn't wait to see what I got! I had a lot a fun simply from digging trough the stamps. I didn't like all of them, they were randomly selected, but I could find some that I liked. This is what I wanted to reproduce with this project."
So, this project is for those who like to make and to receive surprises, and not only for high-level collectors. Professionals normally buy stamps they need at stamp's auctions.
P.S. About CTO (http://100stamps.club/discussions/messages/35):
"So it's more complicated then it seems. Okay, no special rules here. Only the common sense."
26 Jul 2020, 19:01:00
I read the comments on the board with a grain of salt, some people see the glass half full, others see it half empty, I may agree or disagree with someones opinion but I recon that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I respect that. I don't subscribe to the idea that... Please no CTO and then you send a handful of them. If you don't like crap, don't send it.
And it is not complicated but it is common sense, sadly some members just lack it or just plainly disregards its fellow stamp collectors.
26 Jul 2020, 19:19:13
Tony, I agree with your statement: "Please no CTO and then you send a handful of them".
But I still think that your negative feedback in this case is too severe for the new member...
26 Jul 2020, 20:00:57
Natalia, if you specifically ask to please do not send stamps from...China and I send you strictly
stamps from China, how would you take?. And this is exactly my point, if you can not send some of the stamps as requested on the profile, as least do not send the ones that are not wanted.
Like you, I was in my infancy when I started collecting stamps and eagerly awaited for my dad on Friday night to bring me the much desired 100 stamp package, with time that changed and I am now, without being and expert, more knowledgeable of stamps, still my only interest is to gather as many postally used stamps as I can.
26 Jul 2020, 21:12:21
I understand Natalia, but almost no stamp of it is the whole date stamp. So you can easily turn such a CTO stamp into a used stamp, as I wrote. CTO stamps are fine, and it's foolish not to collect them. Most of such stamps have nice and distinct poststempels in the corners of the stamp.
26 Jul 2020, 21:19:20
There are 2 types of CTO stamps.
Type 1: The stamp is stamped initially at the post office. - such a stamp can be considered to have been used to take account of the restriction.
Type 2. The stamp is printed together with the stamp. - This is a real CTO stamps!!!
26 Jul 2020, 21:21:00
correction
Type 2. The stamp is printed together with the poststempel.
26 Jul 2020, 23:37:12
Example: I have a mint stamp, I go to the post office, there the stamp (only a stamp without a letter) is stamped by the post office clerk. Is such a CTO stamp or used?
27 Jul 2020, 17:29:16
I have several year packs from different european countries. These are cancelled packs with a First Day cancellation.
What about these stamps?? Do you think they are a FDC or CTO? :)
27 Jul 2020, 18:00:40
By the way, I think I would have given five stars for this lot.
Russian stamps are not easy to get, as Raymond already said.
27 Jul 2020, 20:54:03
Wolfgang, many catalog's writers believe that FDC = cover + CTO at the first day of the stamp issue. But I think that FDC is a cover of a real postage of the first day...

Milan, as for me, "Сancelled-To-Оrder" are the stamps with cancellations which did not serve their main purpose - to pay the postage service.
By the way, I would add point 3 to your list:
Type 3. Stamps that do not exist as mint and have never been used by the postal service and exist only as CTO's. An example - http://www.stampsforum.ru/media/kunena/attachments/65/Luxembourg_1944_3a_.jpg
28 Jul 2020, 21:57:01
let me join to debate...
if I receive something like that, i would be unhappy, but i wouldnt grade as a negative - rules of club are ok, so i would give 4*.
after that i would see sender profile where is stated "no CTO" - i would change to 3*

I HATE people stating - no CTOs, no definitives and then they send just that. be fair - send, what you would like to receive!

beautiful postage stamps. not torn, not dirty, not sticky, self-adhesive postage stamps with the hair of previous owners. For me, that's five points.
We do not have modern artistic postage stamps in post offices in Russia. Standard editions only. Accordingly, modern postage stamps have ceased to fulfill their main function. Therefore, all modern postage stamps are CTOs. Even most members of the forum frank their mailings with standard postage stamps. So why are these requirements: only after 2010, not a standard, not a CTO?
We need to relax and enjoy our hobbies, our website, communicating with colleagues from all over the world!
Yesterday I bought the postage stamp I needed at auction for 7,000 euros. Maybe some of us need to go there?
